Job Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer (Fiber Extrusion) is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing methods to help optimize our fiber cable extrusion processes and deliver innovative products to our customers globally. This role will be critical to supporting new product development and continuous improvement in a rapidly expanding facility.

This position reports directly to the Director, Fiber Manufacturing Engineering and is an onsite role based out of East Syracuse, NY with up to 10% travel globally.

You will make a difference in the following ways:

1. Production Support & Optimization: Provide expert technical support to manufacturing operations, troubleshooting process issues, identifying root causes of defects, and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime and improve yield in fiber cable extrusion.
2. New Product Introduction (NPI): Lead and support the development and introduction of new fiber cable products, including process design, material selection, equipment qualification, and establishing robust manufacturing parameters to ensure successful scale-up from pilot to full production.
3. Process Improvement & Efficiency: Continuously identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and quality enhancement through the application of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies, focusing on extrusion parameters, material handling, and equipment performance.
4. Machine Expansion & Capital Projects: Collaborate with cross-functional teams on the planning, justification, installation, and commissioning of new extrusion equipment and lines, ensuring seamless integration into existing facilities and adherence to project timelines and budgets.
5. Documentation & Training: Develop and maintain comprehensive process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials for extrusion processes. Conduct training sessions for production personnel to ensure consistent application of best practices and process understanding.

What you bring:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or other related technical fields.
• Technical Skills: Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles; Technical understanding of extrusion equipment and operation; Experience in AutoCAD or SolidWorks design; Previous experience in fiber cable extrusion strongly preferred
• Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to apply structured problem-solving techniques (FMEA, statistical analysis) to complex manufacturing challenges, with a keen eye for data-driven decision-making.
• Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams, present technical information clearly, and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Project Management: Experience managing technical projects from conception to completion, including planning, execution, monitoring, and closing, with a focus on delivering results on time and within budget.

Applicants can expect a base compensation range of $77,400-$113,100 plus benefits and additional incentives based on the level of the role.  This is the reasonable estimate that Belden believes it might pay for this job based on applicable circumstances at the time of posting. Belden may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law, and commensurate with the applicant’s experience, qualifications, and geographical location.
