Job Summary:

 

PPC a Belden Brand is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer. This will be responsible for the design of new products and implementing cost reductions to existing products. This position reports to the Director of Fiber Cable & Connectivity Development and on-site in Syracuse.

 

You will make a difference in the following ways:

 

  • Develop next-generation optical connectivity solutions for broadband networks that meet market and company margin goals.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the technical expert cooperating with Sales, Product Management, and Global Manufacturing teams to evaluate design trade-offs, troubleshoot production failures, and resolve complex customer requirements
  • Drive market competitiveness by leading the design, value engineering, and cost-optimization of next-generation fiber optic cables, connectors, and passive optical network (PON) components, significantly reducing costs while maintaining strict optical performance and compliance standards
  • Interconnect Development: Advance connector tech by executing projects from initial concept through design validation, qualification, and commercialization.
  • Define environmental and mechanical qualification testing to ensure compliance with customer and industry standards
  • Develop market knowledge and skill set to stay current with market trends, product application and competitive products.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers. Act as the primary engineering point of contact for Product Management, Quality Assurance, and Tier-1 broadband service providers

 

 

What you will bring:

 

  • Education & Experience: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with five (5) years of design experience in a Mechanical or Electromechanical field
  • Experience with fiber optic cable, connectors, cable assemblies, enclosures and interconnect products
  • Knowledge of high speed manufacturing equipment and capability such as automated assembly machines, screw machine and CNC
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or other 3D CAD Platforms
  • Well-developed organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while upholding quality standards

Applicants can expect a base compensation range of $105,000 to $140,000 plus benefits and additional incentives based on the level of the role.  This is the reasonable estimate that Belden believes it might pay for this job based on applicable circumstances at the time of posting. Belden may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law, and commensurate with the applicant’s experience, qualifications, and geographical location.
