Job Summary:
Belden is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer with a deep knowledge of optical transceivers and their role in customer networks. This position will oversee planning, testing, developing, and troubleshooting all aspects of both existing and future products. Reporting to the Director of Systems Engineering, the Principal Systems Engineer will work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and field teams to ensure seamless integration, optimize performance, and support customer deployments. This is an in-office position.
You will make a difference in the following ways:
- Contribute to the development and refine product roadmaps for review.
- Contribute to technical knowledge bases to enhance efficiency.
- Partner with product teams to align engineering and field operations priorities.
- Provide technical insights for marketing and sales presentations.
- Manage equipment acquisition, integration, maintenance, and issue resolution.
- Create and update transceiver and optical network device templates and configurations.
- Test and validate transceiver compatibility with various network systems.
- Travel up to 20% annually as needed.
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer, electrical, or telecommunications engineering (or equivalent experience) with 5 years of relevant experience, or 7+ years of industry experience in lieu of a degree..
- Expertise in optical transceivers, including Optical Transport, ROADM, Coherent Optics, and DWDM, along with hands-on experience using test equipment such as OSA, BER Test Sets, VOAs, and Optical Power Meters.
- Strong Linux proficiency, with experience in configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting open-source server software.
- Familiarity with network protocols such as SNMP, NetCONF, YANG, and programming languages like Python.
- Proven problem-solving skills in complex network environments with a track record of optimizing system performance.
- Experience in Carrier, MSO, and Telco networks, working with optical transceivers, WDM & PON hardware, and network testing.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
