Job Summary:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the design engineering department as they follow our innovation process to design the latest generation of optical, RF, and wireless products for our global telecommunications customers. The Engineering Manager will help lead the team through design ideation, intellectual property evaluation, prototyping, tooling, manufacturing, and other critical R&D functions. The Engineering Manager will interface with design teams and peers at R&D and manufacturing sites around the world. This position will be one of a working manager and may include some responsibilities of a Design Engineer. This position is a hybrid position based out of Syracuse, NY and reports to the Sr. Director, Global Engineering & IP Strategy.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and fosters a continuous improvement environment through Lean Principles and constant evaluation of current processes while adhering to quality standards.
- Provides training and technical guidance to global design personnel as needed.
- Delegates engineering projects and priorities to direct reports.
- Performs annual employee performance appraisals and engages in the continuous development of their team.
- Develop new products that meet the market and the company margin goals.
- Monitors the cost of responsible products and develop design, manufacturing or technology methods to reduce cost and minimize labor.
- Provides guidance for other engineers with regards to externally sourced prototyping services.
Required Skills and Experience
- Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with five (5) years of design experience in a mechanical or electromechanical field
- Experience with fiber optic cable, cableassemblies, enclosures, and interconnect products is preferred but not required
- Experience with high speed manufacturing equipment and capability such as automated assembly machines, screw machine, and CNC
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or other 3D CAD Platforms
- Well-developed organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while upholding quality standards
Applicants can expect a base compensation range of $120,000 - $150,000 plus benefits and additional incentives based on the level of the role. This is the reasonable estimate that Belden believes it might pay for this job based on applicable circumstances at the time of posting. Belden may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law, and commensurate with the applicant’s experience, qualifications, and geographical location.
