Position Summary

The Grinder is responsible for performing precision grinding and finishing operations to prepare metal components for paint and cosmetic finishes. This role requires a strong understanding of abrasive materials, surface finishing techniques, and quality standards to ensure parts meet both dimensional and aesthetic requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform rough and finish grinding operations on metal parts to meet dimensional and surface finish requirements
  • Produce high-quality cosmetic grain finishes on stainless steel and aluminum components
  • Repair welds and surface imperfections to achieve a clean, visually acceptable finish
  • Perform putty work to correct defective areas prior to finishing
  • Select and apply appropriate abrasives based on material type and required finish
  • Use hand tools and grinding equipment to remove material and refine surfaces
  • Inspect finished surfaces to ensure compliance with quality and appearance standards
  • Maintain production efficiency while achieving required finish quality
  • Monitor and control usage of grinding materials and supplies
  • Build and utilize fixtures to securely hold parts during grinding operations

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Frequent use of hands for grinding, sanding, and finishing
  • Ability to lift and move parts as needed
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, and vibration
