Job Summary:
The Sr. Director, Solutions Engineering will be responsible for leading the Solutions Engineering team, providing direct customer support, including but not limited to managing new product introduction, advanced system integration, legacy product support and technical problem solving in support of Sales. Additionally, the position will fill the role of customer technical advocate to the company#s engineering organization.
This role provides a remote opportunity, reporting directly tothe VP, Global Solutions, and will work closely with teams based in Rochester, NY, United Kingdom, and remotely across the globe.
You will make a difference in the following ways:
- Manage, assist, and motivate a team of Solutions Engineers
- Lead business development at key accounts alongside account managers
- Provide a customer insight and perspective for new product development
- Support regression testing into deployed platforms
- Work directly with the Sales Team to understand customer needs and communicate to the product engineering team
- Develop certification processes on behalf of the customer
- Support advanced product integration of optical networking equipment including optical transceivers, optical transport equipment, switches and routers, optical line terminals, optical network terminals, etc.
- Provide network and optical engineering advice and expertise to customers and Belden#s field applications engineering team
- Lead field service support for Belden products
What you bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer, Electrical, or Telecommunications Engineering
- Minimum 10 years experience as a field application engineer, network engineer, or related role, in addition to 5 years experience in a relevant leadership role
- Minimum 10 years experience working with internet service providers, wireless providers, and/or date center operators
- Experience with major vendors in optical routing, switching, and/or transport networking gear required
- Experiencewith network physical layer technologies like fiber optics, copper cabling, and coax cabling
Additional Skills & Experience:
- Possess strong decision making and creative problem-solving abilities
- Provide a remarkable client experience, with the ability to be effective when working with engineers through C suite customers
- A record of success in developing test processes and performing system integration with multiple platforms and vendors.
- Ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs
- Ability to assess the impact of new requirements on currently deployed platforms, systems and processes
- Deep understanding of layer 1-2 optical networking protocols such as Ethernet, OTN, Fibre Channel, CPRI, WDM, and PON.
- Deep understanding of network architectures deployed in optical transport networks, broadband access networks, data centers, and local area networks.
- Proficiency with optical test gear such asOSA, BER Test Sets, VOAs, and Power Meters.

Applicants can expect a base compensation range of $175,000 to $219,000 plus benefits and additional incentives based on the level of the role. This is the reasonable estimate that Belden believes it might pay for this job based on applicable circumstances at the time of posting. Belden may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law, and commensurate with the applicant’s experience, qualifications, and geographical location.
