Job Summary:
Belden Inc. is currently seeking a Principal Fiber Cable Product Development Engineer for the Broadband Solutions group. This position will serve as a subject matter expert and will beresponsible for the development of new optical fiber cables including micro cable, aerial cables, drop cable assemblies and other access and distribution solutions. This role will require close collaboration with global cable engineering, manufacturing, and product management teams. You will lead the definition of product requirements and product qualification through commercialization. This position will be based in our R&D and manufacturing headquarter located in Syracuse, NY and reports to the Engineering Manager. Expected travel would be 25% or less.
You will make an impact in the following way:
- Collaborate with Sales, Application Engineering and Product Line Managers, to gather voice of the customer, generate and evaluate new opportunities.
- Generate Intellectual Property to protect new optical fiber cable designs and solutions.
- Identify and design new platforms driving breakthrough growth opportunities.
- Lead development and execution of qualification plan for new optical fiber cable designs meeting and/or exceeding customer requirements and fiber cable standards requirements in a timely and safe manner to contribute to the growth of the team and Belden's business units.
- Mentor, provide leadership, and consult other Fiber Cable Engineering team members to support their projects.
- Prepare and manage experimental trials on cable extrusion lines.
- Coordinate the introduction of products and their implementation for manufacturing with our internal and external suppliers.
- Work with manufacturing team and quality teams to troubleshoot any material or processing issues, and support the commissioning of new fiber cable manufacturing equipment.
What you bring:
- Education & Experience - Mechanical Engineering degree with knowledge of material science or Chemical Engineering degree with knowledge of mechanical principles and minimum seven (7) years of experience in the development of fiber cable design, development, and testing.
- Knowledge - Knowledge in optical fiber and proficient use of 3D CAD and simulation in SolidWorks software.
- Skills - Proven execution in product development process and plastics extrusion.
- We Reach for Greatness - Proficient skills in presentation, planning, and documentation using Microsoft office applications and other digital tools. Team player, experience in fast-paced environment, and attention to details.
Applicants can expect a base compensation range of $112,300-$168,500, plus benefits and additional incentives based on the level of the role. This is the reasonable estimate that Belden believes it might pay for this job based on applicable circumstances at the time of posting. Belden may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law, and commensurate with the applicant’s experience, qualifications, and geographical location.
