Belden’s R&D Fiber Internship offers current students an opportunity to work on important business projects, collaborate with experienced managers and deliver real results for the organization. Over the course of twelve weeks, you will gain hands-on experience creating real business solutions while also developing project management skills, interpersonal skills, and field-specific knowledge.  

 

As a member of our 2026 Internship Program, you’ll be fully immersed with a global team of R&D fiber and cable experts eager to teach and learn from you along the way. These fast-paced positions are ideal for students who are interested in developing themselves personally, while also making a substantial contribution to the company. You’ll work towards goals, deliver results, and present to business leaders. 

 

We offer opportunities to work in our facility in Tucson, AZ. 

 

How you can add value within the R&D Fiber function: 

  • Support the design and validation of new fiber-optic cable and connectivity products and run development trials 

  • Qualify fiber optic cable and connectivity products in our test labs and ensure that they meet industry standards 

  • Perform optical, mechanical, and environmental qualification tests, and investigate failure modes 

  • Participate in the technical evaluation of new measurement equipment with R&R analysis 

  • Support prototype production using 3D printers and assemble and validate prototypes in the laboratory

A successful R&D Fiber Intern will offer:

  • Academic Achievement – you are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Optical Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, and have completed at least two years of undergraduate coursework. 

  • Intellectual Curiosity – Creative problem solving, critical thinking, a desire to learn and a drive to take initiative will prepare you for success. 

  • Other Skills to Foster Success – you have technical curiosity and technical writing skills, as well as knowledge of VBA programming, SOLIDWORKS and Labview software, or 3D printing.

Belden offers company-paid housing for the duration of the internship, reimbursement for travel costs associated with relocating to Belden from the university at the start of the internship, and from Belden to the university at the end of the internship, and a work culture which includes commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability. 

 

Applicants can expect a compensation range of $26-37 hour and additional incentives based on the level of the role.  This is the reasonable estimate that Belden believes it might pay for this job based on applicable circumstances at the time of posting. Belden may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law, and commensurate with the applicant’s experience, qualifications, and geographical location.
